Description
Joy, in its purest form, needs no ground beneath it. In “Circle of Faith – Expressive Hasidic Dance in Jewish Art”, three Hasidic men dance in a radiant circle of gold, their movements weightless and free, as though lifted by the sheer force of their devotion. There is no visible floor, no horizon — only energy, rhythm, and the deep, unbridled joy of spiritual connection.
Created in acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, this piece measures 80×80 cm | 32×32 in, giving it a commanding yet intimate presence on any wall. The gold leaf catches the light in a way that shifts with your perspective, making the painting feel alive and ever-changing. The muted earth tones and soft backgrounds allow the golden circle to glow with quiet intensity.
I painted this piece to honour the Hasidic tradition of ecstatic dance — the idea that through movement and music, one can transcend the physical world and touch something divine. The figures are not performing; they are lost in the moment, completely surrendered to a melody that cannot be heard but is deeply felt.
As a Judaica artist living in Jerusalem, I am continually moved by the expressions of faith I witness around me. This painting by Chaya Koritz captures one of the most beautiful — the spontaneous, joyful dance that celebrates the Creator. It is a piece that radiates warmth and spiritual energy in any space.
