Description
Jerusalem reveals itself in layers — of stone, of light, of meaning. In “Jerusalem Unveiled: Layers of Time and Light”, I built the composition the same way the city builds itself: layer upon layer, each one holding a deeper story. The structures rise and fall in forms that feel almost mystical, as if the city is guarding secrets within its ancient walls, waiting for those who look closely enough to discover them.
Created in acrylic and gold leaf on canvas, this piece measures 80×130 cm | 32×51 in, giving it a commanding yet intimate presence on any wall. Gold leaf plays a central role in this piece, weaving through the composition like veins of sacred light. Each stroke of gold catches and reflects differently depending on where you stand, making the painting a living, shifting experience — much like Jerusalem itself.
I painted this piece to honour the complexity of the Holy City — the way it holds millennia of history, faith, and human experience within a landscape of extraordinary beauty. The muted earth tones and luminous gold accents create a palette that is both grounded and transcendent, reflecting the dual nature of a city that is at once deeply physical and profoundly spiritual.
